Colorado arrests 110 illegals in two days

DENVER (UPI) -- More than 110 illegal immigrants -- mainly from Mexico -- were arrested in Colorado, where icy roads led to six crashes in two days, reports said.

No one was killed in the Monday and Tuesday wrecks involving six vehicles and more than 80 illegal immigrants. Another 30 people were taken into custody in traffic stops.

As Mexicans enter the United States in search of springtime work, "it's pretty common to have this type of traffic," Carl Rusnok of Immigration and Customs Enforcement told ABC News.

"It validates what we've all known intuitively, which is that there are a lot of illegal immigrants in Colorado," state Senate Minority Leader Andy McElhany, R-Colorado Springs, told the Denver Post.

State police say about 500 illegal immigrants are arrested in Colorado each week -- a hot issue in the state.

State legislation is pending that would make smuggling punishable by five years in prison

U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., leads a group that has vowed to block President George Bush's guest-worker plan.
This dovetails with what we saw when we lived in Colorado.
