Hispanic Gap in Education and Language Skills Reported
Getting the children of Spanish-speaking immigrants to finish high school and go to college is crucial to the economy as much of the nation's workforce edges toward retirement, says a report released Wednesday by a prominent government advisory board. It's all here.

By 2030, about 25% of white Americans will be at retirement age or older, compared with 10% of Hispanics. Although a growing number of Hispanics have reached the middle class, the report says they continue to lag economically as a group because of a continued influx of low-skilled immigrants. At the same time, demand is rising for a better-educated U.S. workforce.
No crap. So what is our government doing to fix the problem? Well, they're starting off by NOT fixing the ILLEGAL immigration crisis, allowing a continued influx of under-educated, low-skill workers who drive down wages. Then they import an ever increasing number of skilled, educated immigrants to take higher level jobs. Americans are stuck in between -- the classic, ignored middle child.
"Perhaps the most profound risk facing Hispanics is failure to graduate from high school," the report says. Hispanics have the highest high school dropout rate of any ethnic or racial group in the USA.Aaaaah, finally the "U" word rears its ugly head. Undocumented. I prefer ILLEGAL, but if you've spent any time around this joint you already know that.
The report also cites low enrollment rates in four-year colleges and poor English skills. "These trends bode ill for Hispanics," the report warns. "Failure to close Hispanics' education and language gap risks compromising their ability to both contribute to and share in national prosperity."

The report comes at a time of intensifying debate over whether undocumented immigrants should be granted certain rights, including temporary work visas, driver's licenses and in-state tuition breaks.
Stopping immigration won't reduce the number of Hispanics already here, says Roberto Suro, director of the Pew Hispanic Center. "Regardless of what happens to immigration flows, there is a huge second generation of Latinos," Suro says.
No, but a one-way ticket for those who are here ILLEGALLY sure will.
The challenge, he adds, is getting mostly white voters "to invest in the education of another group."If you smell something burning at this point, IT'S ME. I challenge Mr. Suro to give me one -- ONE -- reason why American voters OF ANY RACE should invest in the education of a group who broke the law the come here, break the law to stay here, and break the law to work here.
I am accused day in and day out of being a racist because of my work for the Minuteman organization, because I have the guts to stand up and tell my government that IT'S NOT OKAY for ILLEGAL immigrants to steal jobs, services, and a way of life from the American people. And IT'S DEFINITELY NOT OKAY for the government that the American people elected to not only refuse to enforce our laws, but to make new ones that reward the lawbreakers and penalize America's citizens and legal immigrants.
Yet here comes Mr. Suro to state that the challenge is getting mostly white voters "to invest in the education of another group."
How Latinos fare academically will shape the nation's future, says Melissa Lazarin, senior education policy analyst at the National Council of La Raza, a civil rights group. "We need to ensure that they're well-educated and they get the tools that they need to contribute."You know what? I am all for ensuring that everyone in this country legally has the opportunity to be well-educated and get the tools they need to contribute.
But if you broke our laws to come here you need to give back the job you stole and repay the taxpayer-funded services you stole. You need to count your blessings that you aren't on the receiving end of a go-directly-to-jail-do-not-pass-go-do-not-collect-$200 card. And you need to get and STAY the hell out of this country.
