Illinois Mortgage Program to Benefit Illegals

Illinois is poised to become the second state in the country to help undocumented immigrants buy homes, even as critics seek to overturn a similar program in Wisconsin.

Illinois housing officials plan to announce Sunday that they will allow anybody with a taxpayer identification number, issued by the Internal Revenue Service to workers ineligible for Social Security numbers, to qualify for state-guaranteed mortgages.
Entire article here.

The independent taxpayer identification number, or ITIN, was created in the 1990s to encourage immigrants to pay federal income taxes, even if they are working in violation of the law.
And that's the root of the problem, at least on our end, isn't it? The federal government sends a blatant mixed signal by having laws to regulate who can and cannot work in this country, while offering a federally-issued ID number to collect taxes from those who are working illegally. There shouldn't be such a thing as an ITIN number. By issuing them the federal government is breaking its own laws:

According to Section 8, U.S. Code 1324: "Any person who...encourages, or induces an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the Unisted States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such coming to, entry, or residence is or will be in violation of law...aids or abets the commission of any of the preceding acts...for the purpose of commercial advantage or private financial gain, be fined under title 18, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both..."

"How illegal can an illegal alien be if the government is subsidizing his mortgage?" said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, which wants to curb immigration.
Sing it, Mark.
