California District Officials Hear Rumors of Possible Violence

LOS ANGELES (March 30) - One Southern California school district is closing its middle and high schools for the rest of the week after officials said they heard rumors that some of the widespread demonstrations against proposed federal immigration reforms could turn violent.

The Oceanside Unified School District, which educates 21,500 students in grades kindergarten through 12, announced Wednesday that it would close its middle schools and high schools on Thursday and Friday.

"We have received information that violence and racial tension could escalate throughout the community during the remainder of the week," said Ken Noonan, superintendent of the district just north of San Diego.

Now I will grant you, this could be school administrators being nervous nellies, not even an unlikely possibility. However, these folks have not heard the word 'no' in a long time. What happens when they do?

I also think the reason the media is giving this play is to try to cow averge Americans, to make us fear what might happen if we suddenly became a nation of laws again.

Know what? I'm not afraid. I fully expect there will be violence whenever it is we attempt to become a nation that respects laws again. It won't be easy, there will be violence. Never accuse me of sugar coating or shying away from reality.

But we have to do this now. Not addressing this problem now merely increases the likelihood of violence and turmoil when the crackdown comes. Remember too that fresh troops in this war are being added every night to the tune of a couple thousand as they stroll in here as "honored guests." Not bad, most armies would be envious.
