American Flag a Symbol of Bigotry?

Dozens of high school students protested a temporary school policy forbidding students from displaying the U.S. flag, as well as flags from other countries, amid racial tensions following immigration rallies.
It's all here. H/T to Allahpundit filling in for Michelle Malkin. Watch video of Longmont, Colorado's Skyline High School asshat principal, Tom Stumpf, here.

Stumpf states that the American flag was not being "used as a symbol of cultural heritage," but rather as "a symbol of bigotry...and hostility." Let's break that charge down, shall we?

big-ot-ry
the state of mind of a bigot

big-ot
a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices

prej-u-dice
an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics

ir-ra-tio-nal
not endowed with reason or understanding

Following the definition trail, that means that Principal Stumpf believes that the students waving American flags were obstinately devoted to an unreasonable hostility against students waving Mexican flags in objection to immigration reform proposals.

Remind me again what country this is? How is it hostile to wave an American flag in America? If someone in America can be taunted by an American flag, what the hell are they doing here in the first place?

It occurs to me that a flag, in its most traditional sense, is a banner raised to indicate to whom you owe your allegiance. Whose side you are on. Who you are fighting for. These students were confronted with their peers giving allegiance, taking the side of, and fighting for Mexico right here in America. Let me say that again. RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA. And they were the ones deemed hostile and inflammatory?

I am proud of these students for being willing to stand up for their rights, and to stand up for our country. It really chaps my ass to see people who are here illegally taking to the streets, foreign flags in hand, to demand rights that are reserved for citizens. They don't even have the right to BE HERE, let alone make demands of the American people through our supposedly representative government.

God forbid these patriotic students should take my strong suggestion to further exercise their rights and fly the Mexican flag upside down -- or better yet, BURN IT -- to make their point. Hell, I'd send them the flag.

Because if simply waving an American flag is "inflammatory" and deserving of suspension, what on earth would the punishment for burning a Mexican one be? The death penalty?
