Family Values?

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A woman charged with leaving her 2-week-old baby with a stranger at a Hollywood coin-operated laundry has been sentenced to six months in prison.

As part of a plea deal, 28-year-old Blanca Román-Morales pleaded no contest to a child neglect charge.

Her attorney said Román-Morales has already served most of the time and will voluntarily leave the country in a few weeks. If she doesn’t, the State’s Attorney’s Office said she’ll have to serve five years of probation.

Román-Morales will apparently go to Mexico and be reunited with her baby who is living there with family.

Police said Román-Morales was carrying her son in a car seat in April on her way to a store. She apparently left the baby with a stranger at the coin-operated laundry because he was heavy.

She went to pick him up on her way home, but saw an officer with the baby.

A police spokesman said Roman-Morales got scared and went home because she is an illegal immigrant.
