Insurgency?

A very small proportion of the people that are involved in the insurgency are terrorists or how I would interpret them as terrorists.”
Representative Jack Murtha

Insurgent: To rise up against. Rising up against established authority; rebellious. Designating a revolt or rebellion not well enough organized to be recognized in international law as a rebellion.
Webster's New World Dictionary

Rep. Jack Murtha would like us to understand that the dirty bastards doing things like this are merely an insurgency, definitely not terrorists, nope, nothing like.

I'm gonna give the old rummy the benefit of the doubt and assume we aren't talking about the foreign fighters pouring over the borders.

Let's take a moment and examine what the object of this putatative insurgency might be. Iraq was ruled by a psycho for many years. During that time Mr. Psycho built up a cadre of sadists and bums who would like nothing better than for things to go right back to the little house of horrors for everyone but them of course.

So, in the service of this most excellent goal they have blown up women and children. Destroyed critical infrastructure and killed indiscriminately. In other words, they are terrorists, or close enough for rock and roll or hand grenades.

Mr. Murtha would have us believe there is some sort of qualitative difference between those who cross the border and commit these hienous acts and those who are native born.

But there isn't.

Mr. Murtha would have us believe that it makes no difference if we stay or go.

But it does matter. It matters to our spirit, our national sense of self. Sometimes you gotta suck it up and deal with unpleasant things when fighting pure evil. For these are not folks who seek a noble goal or a valid political outcome. Whether you call then insurgents or terrorists the goal is the same.

To kill.
