There Are No Words
While eating dinner tonight MJ and I were listening to the Sean Hannity show. While savoring her delicious Maple and Spicy Mustard glazed ham we listened as Sean took a call.
The caller was a father who'd just lost his son in the war. As they spoke and the father broke down in tears, MJ and my forks' lowered until they settled on our plates. The plain courage in his voice as he fought to thank Hannity for all he did for the troops brought a lump to each of our throats as we heard this man who had lost so much display a type of class that is almost unimaginable to me in this day and age.
As he fought for breath I thought of all the parents crushed by the brutal cost of war, all the family members bereft of the comfort of seeing their loved one again.
There are no words.
I hope he knows his son has become one of pillars this great country rests on. A shining golden beam on which our freedom rests in troubled times. Over two thousand of these beams have been added to the foundation of this country in the last four years at a terrible cost.
Each one of these pillars is a treasure, a horrible and necessary part of freedom. And each of these pillars holds up the essential truths this nation enshrines.
Duty
Honor
Country
There can be no higher calling than to offer your life for another's. And every single time a hero makes this sacrifice it strengthens the bonds that draw this country together. This struggle is far from over, more pillars will be added.
There are no words.
