Still Bi-Partisan

I find it instructive on occasion to consider the fundamental difference between Liberal and Democrat. My Dad is an old school Chicago blue collar Democrat, or a true Liberal in the classic sense which has been corrupted by the currently insane Democrat party. Though I am an ideologicl conservative I find my Dad is about three times to the right of me on most any social issue, a classic liberal.
So I am pleased to see Liberals stepping up to the plate on illegal immigration...
And of course our pal The Gun Toting Liberal has a great piece on the subject...

How times change. Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the leader of the Democratic minority in the U.S. Senate, has threatened a filibuster against a bill by Republican Senator Bill Frist that would seek to enforce control of U.S. borders, unless Frist includes a truly terrible plan to add half a million indentured servants to the U.S. workforce each year--a proposal backed for years by former Texas Senator Phil Gramm, a far-right reactionary, and now supported by Senator Ted Kennedy along with Senator John McCain, one of the most conservative members of the U.S. Senate. The Democratic Party, having abolished the horrible Bracero program, now insists on reviving it.Read it all.
And of course our pal The Gun Toting Liberal has a great piece on the subject...
Do we finally declare that “enough is enough” when there are no longer any forests or wheat fields in our country because it resembles an inner city from coast to coast? Allow enough people into our country and we’ll all be living in a concrete jungle with the United Nations air dropping food, water and clothing paid for by the good people of Sudan… is that what we want?We may quibble over details, but I am heartened that we are all trying to find a way to make this country stronger and safer. Truly admirable goals.
Or do we stop the number of immigrants from joining our United States once our land reaches the point where we are only a huge, coast to coast “suburbia” with 20 cotton fields, 10 wheat fields and 15 orchards? Or to the other extreme, do we consider it a wakeup call only when our entire country resembles a Wal-Mart parking lot because there are so many people here?
