The Dangers Of Conflation

What happens when "Immigration reformers" conflate illegal immigration with legal?
GA Poll shows people think most immigrants here illegallyI tend to think this should be in the dictionary under the word "ironical."
ATHENS - The illegal immigration issue in Georgia has people divided on both sides of the fence - and a new poll shows that Georgians believe most immigrants are here illegally. A new University of Georgia poll shows that almost two-thirds of Georgians believe that most new immigrants living in the state are here illegally. That number is up from five years ago when only half of Georgians thought most newcomers were without papers. Of the 803 people randomly polled 29 percent said they thought illegal immigrants were taking jobs from them. Since 2001 Gwinnett, Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton and Rockdale counties have each seen significant increases in Hispanic voters as well as a drop in the number of registered white voters.
And of course, for all we know these Georgians are absolutely correct in their assessments. All those newcomers might very well be illegal.
