Enforcement Works!

One of the more egregious lies out there is that enforcement of immigration law against illegal aliens doesn't work. Yet if you pay attention you'll find articles like this on an almost daily basis...

Raids cause migrant worker shortage, Michigan farmers say
GRAND RAPIDS -- Farmers say worries about possible immigration raids have created a shortage of migrant workers in western Michigan this fall, leading them to share the available laborers. "It's been tight," Don Rasch, a farmer in Kent County's Alpine Township, told The Grand Rapids Press for a story published Thursday. "I think there's a lot of fear in the labor force." Teresa Hendricks, director of the Michigan Migrant Legal Assistance Project Inc., said she agrees that immigration sweeps and rumors of sweeps are keeping workers out of the region. "There is definitely a sense of fear, especially on the west side of the state," said Damien Sanchez, a lawyer for the Grand Rapids organization.
Policing Worries N.Va. Latinos
A recent push to enlist local law enforcement agencies in the search for people illegally in this country is driving more immigrants underground, according to immigrant civil rights groups. "Latinos are feeling more and more under attack regardless of their immigration status. We know people are afraid to go to the doctor, to go to school, to report crimes," said Michele Waslin, director of immigration research at the National Council of La Raza, the nation's largest Latino civil rights group. Already, two Northern Virginia law enforcement agencies and about 20 others elsewhere in the United States have begun to form partnerships with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But others are holding back, saying the program could poison relations between officers and immigrant communities.
Well, which is it La Raza? Does enforcement never work, or, does it work so well that it creates a "climate of fear?" Can't have it both ways. And if it's the latter why shouldn't someone like me press for increased enforcement in hopes of removing all criminal aliens from this country?
