SEATTLE The man who killed his ex-girlfriend and himself at the University of Washington was in the United States illegally.
Jonathan Rowan entered the country from Britain in 1996 on a visa that expired in 90 days. He worked odd jobs, moved frequently and used fake names.

For a while he lived in Seattle with Rebecca Griego who broke up with him and complained that he beat her and threatened her life.

On Monday he walked into her office in the architecture building with a revolver, killed her and took his own life.

Now here's the kicker!

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that Rowan had been arrested for drunken driving in June, but officers didn't know he was an undocumented immigrant. City law forbids police from routinely asking people about their immigration status.
