Sooner or later
This weekend I felt the breath catch in my throat. The headline read: Suicide bomber in Oklahoma. See story here. Though it has been decided that this was not a terrorist act at this point.
This is something i've been expecting for years. The Islamic fanatics have assured us it WILL happen. Why won't we believe them.
I have long thought that the final straw for America and Americans to take terrorism seriously would be our very own suicide bombing. Nine eleven was too big, I think. Perhaps we are to inured by Hollywood magic but, to many folks it didn't seem entirely real. Many Americans, I fear, were waiting for Arnie to stride out of the rubble and say: You're safe now, they won't be back.
A suicide bombing though is much more intimate. 2,749 dead, uh-uh, no way, too big to process. How about 39? 22? A nice round 50?
Our Northern and Southern borders are as open as Cletus's lower jaw, and yet we still haven't sealed it. Stories appear in the news that Islamic bastards desire to enter illegally and wreak all manner of havoc. Must we let them? Is that our duty? If so, I missed that peculiar civics class.
Visas are handed out like candy to any and all who wish us harm. People with ties to terrorism (read professors) have the ability to allow passports to the worst of the worst. Kinda like Con-Air without the cute little girl and the bunny.
No, our duty is clear. We can no longer allow free access to everyone in the world, especially those who wish to harm us.
Money and convenience have been the excuses thus far. And this after nine eleven.
But they will be back. They have assured us of this. Let's believe them before it's too late and we get our very own suicide bombing.
