Congress on the Passage of S2611

Human Events Online has a great roundup of statements on S2611 from both houses, both sides of the aisle, and both sides of the issue.

Some of my favorites...

Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) says:
“The American people have been demanding that their elected officials take action to limit illegal immigration first by securing our borders, then by addressing guest worker reform."

MJ says:
You listen to me! You really listen to me!

Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) says:
"We learned from the mistakes of the 1986 amnesty bill..."

MJ says:
Then why did you vote in support of a bill just like it and then some?

Senator Bill Frist (R-TN) says:
"We’ve taken a bill that the American people would have concluded was amnesty—and by my lights, we took the amnesty out while we put the security in."

MJ says:
??? Took the amnesty out? You might want to call maintenance, Senator Frist, because I think your lights are burned out.

Senator Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) says:
“In addition, this bill contains a number of provisions that just defy common sense, such as allowing illegal immigrants who fraudulently use a U.S. citizen’s Social Security number to accumulate and collect benefits from an already tight Social Security trust fund!"

MJ says:
Defy common sense, indeed. I bet you that I wouldn't get Social Security benefits on a SS# I used fraudulently.

Senator Teddy Kennedy (D-MA) says:
“That’s our desire. That’s our commitment. And we welcome—we welcome—the strong leadership of the president of the United States in this undertaking."

MJ says:
Does anyone else hear Teddy Kennedy agreeing with and welcoming the leadership of George W. Bush and want to cry "Run away! RUN AWAY!"?

Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) says:
“The battle is joined. Today, the U.S. Senate passed the largest illegal alien amnesty in American history. It is bad for our national security, it is bad for American workers, and it sends a very bad message to those waiting legally for their chance at the American dream. The only good news is that Congressmen are going home next week where they are guaranteed to get hell from their constituents for this amnesty."

MJ says:
Make it so, folks! Make it so!
