Watering Down the Message?

I have been struck recently by the number of participants in left-leaning political rallies who are there for something other than the cause at hand.

A couple of weeks ago, Jake and I covered a pro-amnesty rally here in Chicago where, mixed in with the "no human is illegal" signs, there was plenty of anti-war, anti-Bush, pro-Palestine signage to be had.

Earlier this week a few thousand anti-war protesters marched down the Mag Mile to the federal building. But check out this local news coverage of the march. Just after the reporter finishes his intro and the crowd footage rolls, listen to what the crowd is chanting: Latinos united will never be divided.

???

Of course, the folks from World Can't Wait show up anywhere and everywhere with their message (and distinctive green banner), no matter how little they have to do with "driving out the Bush regime." Like this pic I snapped at DePaul University where Republican students were barred from attending a Ward Churchill speech:

???

Now I've just read an invitation to protest whatever you want if you'll add your numbers to those marching for amnesty for illegal aliens on May 1st. From the May Day 2007 website:
...while everyone will pledge to support immigrant workers rights at May Day 2007, local groups can choose to includes any other topics for their mobilizations: civil rights, anti-war, Katrina, labor rights, health care...., etc.
Do you think they might be afraid that they won't be able to get out the numbers they did last year? Is that why they're inviting anyone with a leftist message to join them in the march on American streets?

Yeah. That's what I think, too.

I, for one, love it. Because it only illuminates the fact that they aren't really marching FOR anything...they're marching AGAINST America. Bring it on, I say. Citizens need to see them parading through our cities with their cacophony of we-hate-America messages.

If Americans are going to get off their asses and start doing something to take this country back before it's too late, that's EXACTLY what they need see.

Bring it on.
