ICIRR: Documenting Support for Illegal Aliens

Here's what the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) has to say about the complaint filed by two ILLEGAL ALIENS against Illinois Republican Jim Oberweis. They appear to have some difficulty with how to relate facts in a clear and honest fashion, so I've helped them out a little. My additions are in RED.

Meet Rosa Ramirez and Jorge Ibarra -- two undocumented workers ILLEGAL ALIENS who live ILLEGALLY and work ILLEGALLY in northwest suburban Chicago. Rosa, who is 41, and Jorge, who is 34, were both hired ILLEGALLY, AND BY WHOM? OBERWEIS & PATMAR, THE SUBCONTRACTED JANITORIAL SERVICE BOTH SAY THEY DID NOT on May 1, 2005 to clean three Oberweis Dairy stores WHERE THEY WERE CONVENIENTLY VIDEOTAPED -- IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT -- WORKING ILLEGALLY. The stores are located at 9 East Dundee Road, Arlington Heights, 1405 Palatine Road, Hoffman Estates, and 30 South Roselle Road in Schaumburg.

Ramirez and Ibarra – both of whom were born in Mexico and came here ILLEGALLY to find work ILLEGALLY – tell a story that is all-too-typical for undocumented workers ILLEGAL ALIENS, even though it is a story many would not dare to tell on the record.

“In all of our ILLEGAL jobs – including our ILLEGAL job with Oberweis – employers take advantage of us because they know we don’t have papers =ILLEGAL,” said Rosa in an interview on Thursday, November 3, hours after the complaint to the state’s Department of Labor was filed. “Because we are afraid of asserting our rights THOSE RIGHTS ARE FOR LEGAL WORKERS and asking for decent salaries and benefits GUARANTEED FOR LEGAL WORKERS, they know they can pay us terrible wages. We hope these abuses cease for all of us ILLEGAL immigrant workers ALIENS,” she says.

Ramirez and Ibarra have brought a complaint to the Illinois Department of Labor against Oberweis Dairies for violating Illinois and federal minimum wage laws FOR LEGAL WORKERS and failing to fully pay its employees ILLEGAL ALIENS. The complaint was filed jointly last Thursday by the statewide Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights (ICIRR) WHO DON'T KNOW, UNDERSTAND, OR USE THE WORD ILLEGAL and the Day Laborer Collaboration, project of the Chicago Workers’ Collaborative WHO EVIDENTLY ROAM THE CHICAGO SUBURBS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH A VIDEO CAMERA.

“Mr. Oberweis has exploited these workers ILLEGAL ALIENS twice,” says Joshua Hoyt, Executive Director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. “First he exploited them for cheap labor NOT IF HE DIDN'T HIRE THEM, and then he exploited them by demagoging RHETORIC ALERT! RHETORIC ALERT! their illegal BRAVO -- YOU MANAGED TO CHOKE OUT THE "I" WORD! status for cheap votes AND I THOUGHT THAT IN A DEMOCRACY ALL LEGAL VOTES HAD THE SAME VALUE. We have asked that the Illinois Department of Labor conduct a full investigation into Mr. Oberweis’ employment practices. No one likes a hypocrite,” Hoyt continued, “and Mr. Oberweis’ hypocrisy just shows how our economy is powered by the labor of undocumented immigrants ILLEGAL ALIENS like Rosa and Jorge. When even an anti-immigration demagogue RHETORIC ALERT! RHETORIC ALERT! like Mr. Oberweis uses the undocumented ILLEGAL to make his fortune, it drives home the point that we need immigration reform LAW ENFORCEMENT that allows the undocumented ILLEGAL to come out of the shadows OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR and earn START BY NOT BREAKING OUR LAWS their citizenship GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD.”
