Indiana Illegals to Demand Driver's Licenses

Illegals are planning to march on December 12th in Indianapolis to demand their "rights" to obtain driver's licenses.

A friend sent me this from La Voz de Indiana. I tried to link to this particular issue (11/2/05 -- Volume 5, #125, Page 13), but the most recent issue I could pull up online is #123.

My comments, as always, are in RED.

More than 45 people from the community and owners of car dealerships, in their majority Hispanics, met in La Hacienda Restaurant of 38th Street to dialogue about the changes to obtain driver’s licenses. We are hard-working people, not criminals. IF YOU LIVE HERE ILLEGALLY AND WORK HERE ILLEGALLY YOU ARE, BY DEFINITION, A CRIMINAL! Many of our community members say they have to go to work ILLEGALLY, but when their licenses have expired WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO HAVE ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE and they go to renew them, they find out that the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles began to demand proof of legal residence or Social Security Number MADRE DE DIOS! THE NERVE OF ASKING SOMEONE TO SHOW THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO A GOVERNMENT-PROVIDED SERVICE BEFORE HANDING IT OVER in order to grant or renew driver’s licenses. However, our people affirm that it is not only a documentation problem, but also a discrimination one. A Mexican man married to an American citizen claimed at once that his wife is being discriminated against for using a Latino last name. YOU'LL HAVE TO DO BETTER THAN THAT. HOW WAS SHE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST? WAS SHE REFUSED A DRIVER'S LICENSE? WHEN? BY WHOM? JUST SAYING SOMETHING DOESN'T MAKE IT SO. LIKE THIS. That is how cruel life has been for many in this country where the only thing we do is work ILLEGALLY and work hard ILLEGALLY to earn the minimum wage GUARANTEED FOR LEGAL WORKERS.

I just don't get what is so hard about this. If you are here illegally, you are NOT entitled to the rights and privileges of citizens or legal immigrants. If you are here illegally you are a criminal. It is to our shame and blame that we haven't done anywhere near enough to enforce our laws, but you still broke them of your own free will.

You have no right to complain when you are being denied rights you did not earn. I don't care where you are from. I don't care what color your skin is. I don't care what your native language is. None of these are reasons to keep you from legally seeking work and/or citizenship in this great country. But arrogantly breaking our laws then demanding the unearned rights and privileges of citizenship? HUGE REASON.
