Islam: What the West Needs to Know
Jake and I saw this provocative documentary when it opened on Friday. It is currently running for one week, and only in Atlanta, Chicago, and Washington D.C. Visit the official movie website for more information, or to read more reviews.
The film opens and is sprinkled with various footage of world leaders insisting that Islam is a peaceful religion, and that terrorists who commit violence such as 9-11 and the London subway bombings in the name of Islam are not truly representative of the religion. The history of Islam and its defining texts are examined and explained by a series of experts: Abdullah Al-Araby, Bat Ye'Or, Robert Spencer, Serge Trifkovic, and Walid Shoebat.
If you are not familiar with abrogation in relation to the Koran, think that the Crusades were an aggressive offensive on the part of Christians, or don't know that jihad and Mein Kampf mean the same thing -- don't miss this movie. Even if you did know this stuff, the film is such an unrelenting and un-politically correct examination of Islam that it should not be missed.
NOTE: A handful of protesters (four, I think) showed up at the theatre in Chicago to protest this movie as anti-Islamic. As they were encouraging passerby to take time to tell the theatre that they disapproved of the movie being shown, I'm guessing they didn't shell out the bucks to see it before they objected to its contents. Jake was on the verge of getting one to explain why he was there on camera, but another protester told him not to because we would "twist what he said." I guess the neon green World Can't Wait t-shirt confers all kinds of unfounded "wisdom" of which I was not previously aware.
