Van Plows Into 10 Kids At Maryland Bus Stop
Driver Apparently Lost Control

SILVER SPRING, Md. -- Ten Maryland children have been transported to local hospitals after they were struck by a van at a school bus stop in Silver Spring, a suburb of Washington, D.C.

Authorities said the children were standing on a sidewalk near the entrance to an apartment complex as they waited to go to school when they were slammed into by a panel van that had lost control.

The driver was coming up a hill and around a curve when he apparently lost control. The vehicle jumped a curb, hit a fire hydrant and then spun into the children, said Montgomery County Police Cpl. Sonia Pruitt.

The driver, identified by police as Sebastian Vasquez, 29, of Hyattsville, was still being interviewed and no charges had been filed, police said.
