Their Heritage?

Source: The Hill

I firmly believe people on the other side of the immigration issue from us either, are retarded, or, feel it somehow important to never, ever, engage their brains when opining on this issue.

A perfect case in point...(retarded or non-brain engaged portions bolded)
Serrano said that while many of the immigrants who would benefit from reform cannot vote, Hispanic citizens who do vote perceive attacks on immigrants as attacks on their heritage. Serrano said it is important that Democrats show they care about immigrants.

"We have to let people like me who are citizens know that we're not ignoring the others," he said, adding that any token of recognition would be important.
"Attacks on their heritage?"

Illegal immigration is their heritage?  (because, in the final analysis, that is what the famous phrase "attacks on immigrants" actually means)

How sad.
