This is the latest in a wave of stories on Hispanics converting to Islam — the Washington Post did one in 2001, the NY Times did stories in 2001 and in 2002, with other stories from AP, NPR, the Houston Chronicle, LA Times, Arizona Republic, and so on.

Is there some new religious wave we're not aware of? No; virtually all Hispanics in this country are Christians, still mostly Roman Catholic, but with a growing Protestant minority. Instead, this is a good example of how media bias usually works. Instead of Rather-gate grotesqueries, most media bias shows itself in what reporters and editors consider newsworthy — and Hispanic Muslims are a multicultural two-fer. Even better, this week's story is about Hispanic women converting to Islam — a hat-trick!

This from the same mainstream media that took decades to realize that evangelical Protestantism even existed.
