Totin' Ak-47's!
Shootout With Police Leads To Immigration Bust

KFOX now knows the name of the man Socorro police said shot at an officer, and sparked a SWAT situation. Luke Herrada, 22, is at the El Paso County Jail on a $250,000 bond, charged with attempted capital murder. Police said he was taken there after being treated at Thomason Hospital for minor wounds suffered in the shootout with the officer. As KFOX reported, police say Herrada fired an AK-47 at a Socorro police officer who pulled him over for speeding early Tuesday morning. Police said the officer returned fire and Herrada fled to a home in San Elizario, then to a cotton field, where he surrendered after a two hour stand-off with police. Then, while assisting with this shooting investigation, border patrol agents reported discovering nine undocumented immigrants.
