Quote Of The Day

“Democracy is intrinsically fragile. Many Americans view it as
sturdy and durable because our own republic has lasted more than two
centuries. But the Roman Republic enjoyed nearly four centuries of
civic solidarity before slipping into its era of crisis. Benjamin
Franklin expressed it more realistically when, at the end of the
Constitutional Convention, he replied to an inquiry on what he and his
colleagues had wrought: ‘A republic, madam, if you can keep it.’”
