A comment under the Hot Air posting...
It’s likely that the policy is there to prevent the Guard from opening up on Mexican troops moonlighting for cartels, and thus escalating the boarder chaos into a border war.
And why would that be a bad thing, exactly?

Look, I'm all for deescalating when possible, but at the same time there is a reason we have a bloody military. When people from another country, it doesn't have to be a military force, storm our borders with weapons, violence is the correct response.

Anything else only invites more of the same.

I think one of the biggest mistakes this country makes over and over again is trying so hard to prevent the war we don't realize we're already knee deep in one (see: Iran)
