China Attempts To Spruce Up The Old Image!
Source: Guardian
As China prepares to host the 2008 Olympics they trying to present their best face to the world and make a few changes as the world's scrutiny touches upon them.
Are they changing this...
"If I am sent back to China, they will torture me really bad," said the man, whose name did not appear in the transcript. "They will use dogs. They will pull out my nails."Well, no.
"Home is China, and in China you disappear into a dungeon and no one ever hears from you again," said their lawyer, Sabin Willett. "These guys are not a risk to anyone. They should be released here.
How about this then?
China 'selling prisoners' organs'Um, no.
Top British transplant surgeons have accused China of harvesting the organs of thousands of executed prisoners every year to sell for transplants.
Professor Stephen Wigmore, who chairs the society's ethics committee, told the BBC that the speed of matching donors and patients, sometimes as little as a week, implied prisoners were being selected before execution.
The emergence of transplant tourism has made the sale of health organs even more lucrative.
Nope, what their tacklin' is the tough stuff...
Shark fins!
China should take all shark fin dishes off the menu for foreign visitors before the 2008 Olympic Games, a lawmaker said on Tuesday.
Officials in China traditionally honour distinguished guests with huge banquets climaxing with rare or exotic dishes featuring such delicacies as bear's paw, swallow's nest, monkey brains as well as the famous soup made from shark fin.
Xu Hongzhi, deputy to the National People's Congress and president of the prestigious Peking University, said such menu items might upset foreign guests.
"Serving shark fin to foreign guests during the Olympic Games could greatly hurt China's national image and officials should start to remove the dish from the dining table right now," he told state Xinhua news agency.
Xu said China should also stay away from dishes using other species of wildlife such as snake during the Games.
"It's not only an environmental issue, but one that has a direct bearing on the image of Chinese people," he said.
Rest easy folks, they may be murderous commie barbarous savages, but their now murderous commie barbarous savages who aren't eating shark fins. Feel better?
