Conservative Songmeisters Unite!

The Right Brothers are trying to get thier video on MTV.

Haven't heard of the Right Bros.?

How about the Freedom Folks?

No? Is it because the music stinks?

I don't think so, I just listened to the Right Brothers and I thought it was pretty rockin'. Seeing as I'm a part of the Freedom Folks I admit to some bias, but you know what, I'm really proud of the work we did.

We heard over and over how lousy our CD was when we released it. Let me just say that I was involved in music for over twenty years and nobody had ever told me a project I was involved in stunk. Then I'm involved in a patriotic project and it's the worst thing ever.

Why is that?

I've come across the same type of comments about the Right Bros.

Now let me say this. I'm a little older than the target audience thier going for, but, I'm also a professional musician who's listened to music professionally. What's that mean? It means I can discern a lot about a song whether or not I like it and these guys have done a great job here. Thier lead song "Bush Was Right" is great. It's catchy, got a great beat and would not sound out of place on the radio except for one thing. Thier conservative.

Here's what I really want to talk about in this post, though. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of buying music that's openly partisan I would submit you already are. Those folks peopling the top ten right now, what do you think thier political affiliation is? They really don't hide it, so your already buying music that has an ideological bent. Why not buy music that supports your values in an open and unabashed way?

We patriotic musicians support our troops, support our president and support our country. Isn't that something you'd rather support with your dollars than another anti-American bum trashing this great country and all you believe in.

And I want to stop you before you say something like "Oh, but if it was good a big record company would put it out." That is about as false as it gets. Could somebody who loves this country as much as Moby hates it get a record deal. I don't think so.

I won't lie. Of course we'd like our CD to do well. Why wouldn't we? I'm certain the Right Bros. want thier CD's to sell like hotcakes, why wouldn't we, we're capitalists after all. But know this, you are already in the cultural battle, don't think how you spend your money doesn't matter.

Every dollar you put in an anti-Americans pocket emboldens them to keep on keeping on.

I'm putting a challenge out there to any and all who will stand up for this country. There are artists out there who promote your values. The next time you hear about one don't just shrug and go with what you were doing. Stop, and look'em up and if you like the music, buy it.

How else can we tell Hollywood and the music industry that Conservative values are a viable entity?
